Angela Lin was born on the day of Pi (March 14...3.14) in
the tiny island-nation of Singapore. Her mother had
endured twenty-four good, long, sweaty hours of labor
before passing out, leaving the doctors no choice but to
yank Angela out by forceps. Her head remained coned
shaped for three days.
She was an “is-that-a-boy-or-
girl” baby. Anytime she wore
anything but a dress, people
would congratulate her mum
on her first
-born son.

A
ngela was a drama queen
from birth.
To this day, her
relatives
still like to tell stories
about her infamous wailing. It

is
said that Angela's cries
could be heard from the first
-
floor apartments (the Lin family lived on the twelfth floor).

Angela's parents claim
that she started playing the piano
when she was 3. Though they admit that during her
lessons, she would run up to the piano, press one note
over and over again, then run away.

Angela hated practicing
the piano. It was a huge
source of contention
between little Angie and
her mum. Think
The Joy
Luck Club
...

But today, Angela is
grateful that her mum
was so persistent all
those years. There are
some things that can only be felt and expressed through
music.

Angela and her family immigrated to California a month
before the 7.1 Loma Prieta earthquake (A.K.A. the World
Series Quake). Not knowing what it was, Angela thought
her little brother, Edwin, had caused it, since the walls
started rattling the moment Edwin, with all his little-muscle-
man might, slammed the windows shut in the bedroom
they shared.
There's the muscle
man, himself. That
little Superman.

Like most budding
actors, Angela always
had a wild imagination,
and possessed a
passion for playing
Pretend. Having just
moved to America, and
being a naturally shy
girl, Angela didn't have
many friends to play
with. So her poor little
brother was often
forced into dresses,
skirts, and high heels
for the sake of her
"plays." The picture on
the left is one of the
few times Angela didn't
force Edwin into her
mother's clothes, or make him crawl around on all fours
lowing like a reindeer or mewing like a kitten. However,
those pictures do exist...
Angela's parents, who
decided their poor son
had been humiliated
enough, sent Angela to
summer theater camps
for kids.

Huge mistake. For Mum
and Dad always wanted
Angela to become a
doctor or a concert
pianist. But Angela
caught the Acting Bug
from these summer
theater camp hippies,
and all their dreams
were shot to hell.
Angela, being unusually determined and resourceful for a
shy, quiet prepubescent, found herself an agent (oh yes),
acting classes at
A.C.T.'s Youth Consevatory, and started
performing with the
Children's Theatre of San Jose.

When High School came around, Angela's parents agreed
to send her to a performing arts magnet school on one
condition...She would have to maintain a 4.0 every
semester or be yanked out of all her "drama" activities.

Well, Angela graduated Salutatorian, scored 1470 on her
SATs, received 5s on her AP Calculus, English, English Lit,
and US History tests, and a 4 on her AP Latin.
ALL of which did NOTHING to help her get into Carnegie
Mellon Univeristy: Drama.

After flying to Los Angeles with her mum, auditioning with
2 monologues, 2 songs, and 2 dance routines, Angela was
accepted into the prestigious Carnegie Mellon Drama
program, and became 1 of 12 people they accepted into
their Music Theater program.
Angela's freshman class at CMU. And yes...that IS Josh
Groban at the end there. He's a fantastic actor as well, for
anyone who's interested.

And thus, begins Angela's journey to becoming a
professional actor. At Carnegie, her ego was shredded,
her vocal chords were challenged, her body was stretched,
her mind was set free, her voice was defined, and her soul
was inspired. It was an experience like none other, that
taught her the responsibilities of an actor, and the
privilege of being an actor.
After graduating, Angela
signed with two A-list
agencies, a legit and a
commercial, and has
been working non-stop in
and out of New York City,
including two Broadway
shows.
"For I can do everything through Christ,
who gives me strength."

Philippians 4:13
"Thanks Edwin, for you undying support and for being my
playmate all those years, and thanks Mum and Dad for
letting go of your dreams of having a doctor in the family
for my dreams."
